Will Gary Ross Return To Direct Catching Fire?

For those of you wondering what the hell Catching Fire is, it’s the sequel to the best-selling book and the critically acclaimed movie The Hunger Games. The director is said to be in “tough negotiatons” for the adaptation of the sequel, which is set to be released November 23rd, 2013. It was previously reported that Jennifer Lawrence may have to make a decision to star in either Catching Fire or the sequel to the surprise-hit of last summer, X-Men: First Class as both movies intend to shoot this Fall and Lawrence plays a lead role in both franchises.

Unlike lead stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, Gary Ross is not signed on for sequels and apparentally negotiations for him to direct the first movie were terrible. He was payed $3 million for the movie, as well as taking a 5% backend, but he wants a significant pay rise if he does return to direct. Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) has written the script but is yet to be revised by Ross. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that,

“Ultimately, it will be difficult, and yet everybody will do the sane thing, which is to work it out,” says one. “Everybody will end up unhappy in their own way. It’s just the nature of the beast.”
