UPDATE #2: Which Directors Are In The Running To Helm BOND 24?

Ever since Skyfall was released last year to universal acclaim and a billion-dollar gross to it’s name, there’s been a huge amount of renewed interest in the James Bond property from the general public to filmmakers alike. Much to our disappointment, original director Sam Mendes announced he would not be returning for the twenty-fourth entry in the franchise. However, since then we haven’t really heard much about Bond 24. A few weeks ago there was a rumour that Christopher Nolan had entered talks to direct, but who else has?

First Showing report that they’ve received a tip saying that top directors such as Nolan, Danny Boyle and J.A. Bayona have met with EON to talk about directing the movie, however a reported top contender for the gig is Nicholas Winding Refn. If you’re a casual mainstream movie geek then you might not have heard of that guy, but he’s a brilliant director who helmed the critically acclaimed Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, and this year’s Only God Forgives, also starring Gosling.

They conducted an interview with Refn at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week and when they asked Refn about the rumour, his reaction was pretty telling…

No formal denial, but whenever directors or actors get asked something about a secretive movie that they may be involved in they usually grin and say “no comment.” Out of those four directors, which one do you think is best suited for Bond 24? Share your thoughts below.

UPDATE: Variety are now reporting that, along with Refn, EON has also met with acclaimed directors such as Shane Black (Iron Man 3), Ang Lee (Life of Pi), Tom Hooper (Les Miserables) and David Yates (the last four Harry Potter movies). What do you think? Personally any of these names would be absolutely brilliant, and everyone would be a winner if a guy like Ang Lee or Chris Nolan got to direct the next entry in the franchise. UPDATE #2: This is getting really tedious now. Deadline are saying that all the previous names mentioned probably aren’t in the running at all, but the guy who actually is is none other than original director Sam Mendes, who has re-entered talks. It’s incredibly strange that we would get three different reports about one story in the same evening, but given that this particular site has a history of instantly derailing any scoop Variety posts it leaves me with a question mark over the validity of this. Who do you think is directing Bond 24?
