What exactly is Commissioner Gordon Doing in The Dark Knight Rises?

We’ve got our hands on the WB’s newest story synopsis for The Dark Knight Rises, which admittedly should be pretty unremarkable news, but this one’s a bit different. It reveals some new information about Commissioner Gordon‘s storyline, which has otherwise been muted in news and trailers. Check it out for yourself below, and a big thanks to our friends at Batman-News.com for the scoop…

When Commissioner Gordon stumbles upon a plot to destroy the city from within, Bruce Wayne gets back into action as the Batman. Waiting for him is the mysterious Selina Kyle and Bane, a lethal adversary on a crusade to tear apart Batmans legacy piece by piece.

Here’s the artwork on which the synopsis was featured…

From the looks of things, Gordon will have a far more important role to play in TDKR than he did in the other films, especially since Batman won’t be doing his usual detective work in the beginning. But if you look at the artwork, it appears that the kindly Commissioner is now… a fugitive? Really? I thought that role was already taken by Batman, you know… when he took the blame for Harvey Dent’s death. So is Gordon another scapegoat? And what does that mean for Matthew Modine‘s crime fighting character?

I have a ton of faith in Nolan, but this is just getting so confusing! Maybe that’s why they say “see the movie first” before you draw any conclusions, but all this news is too fascinating for reason or logic!
