The PROMETHEUS Sequel Gets Itself A Writer

Y’all remember Prometheus from this time last year? Probably one of the most controversial movies to date? Yeah, that one. The philosophical sorta-Alienprequel was released to extremely divisive reviews, with literally armies of nerds rising up to voice their opinion on the movie and force their hatred on it’s writer, Damon Lindelof. If you have even basic geek knowledge, you’ll know that guy’s name – he’s responsible for most of Lost, which was equally as divisive. Lindelof has since confirmed he won’t be returning to write the sequel, leaving the project in limbo…

Until today. Variety reports that Fox are nearing a deal with the writer of cinematographer Wally Pfister’s (The Dark Knight Trilogy) upcoming directorial debut Transcendence, Jack Palgen, to pen the script. The movie has an all-star cast of Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Paul Bettany and follows the story of a man who becomes synced with a computer. I know of numerous people who have read the script for the sci-fi thriller and they all loved it, which is tremendously encouraging. However, there’s just one variable left with this sequel…

Director Ridley Scott was meant to return for this movie, however the article goes on to say that it’s unlikely he will end up directing and will probably just be involved in a producing capacity. This is something I predicted weeks ago when Blade Runner 2 got a writer – Scott has both that sequel and Fox‘s Exodus in the pipeline, which follows the story of Moses. Fortunately, stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are both expected to return.

I would imagine this movie will get a 2015 release date, however the studio have placed Assassin’s Creed which also as Fassbender attached in the May spot and they also have Fantastic Four out in March. However, if it IS getting a 2015 release date, then this will be box office roadkill – 2015 is going to be the year of the blockbuster, with Star Wars Episode VII, The Avengers 2, Man of Steel 2, Warcraft, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and several other films all coming out throughout the year. Although it’s a bit late, it’s far more likely you’ll be seeing it in 2016.
