The Hunger Games: Mockingjay To Be Split Into Two Movies

Following the trend set by the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises, Deadline has revealed that Lionsgate is set to split the final Hunger Games novel, Mockingjay, into two movies released in 2014 and 2015 respectively. I know it worked for Harry Potter, but just because that resulted in some happy executives and shareholders doesn’t mean it will work for EVERY teen franchise. The penultimate Twilight movie only made roughly the same amount as The Hunger Games did. We’ve yet to see how much The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 will pull in at the box office, but it will either make a billion or close in near the $700m range.

Another not-so-good thing about the split is that there isn’t enough content in the novel to actually fill two movies, unlike Harry Potter and Twilight. That’s partially true with The Hobbit movies, but there were a lot of events referenced in the book which can be put in the movie. I haven’t completed Mockingjay yet, but so far there isn’t anything like that. Anyway, you can check out The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 November 21 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 on November 20 2015. What do you think of the split? Sound off below.
