“Strong Interest” For Christopher Nolan To Direct BOND 24; Could Idris Elba Be The Next Bond?

Ahead of the release of Skyfall tomorrow, this news is sure to please Bond fans. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that one of the James Bond films in the near-future will star Idris Elba in the title role, and will be directed by Christopher Nolan. The film’s associate producer Gregg Wilson – son of long-time Bond producer Michael G. Wilson – sat down with Digital Spy to promote the movie, and revealed that “it would be a dream for Nolan to direct a future Bond movie.

“Christopher Nolan would be a ‘dream’ choice for a future Bond director. We would of course be interested to have a discussion with him. We would like to do the same type of movie. It would be a dream to be with Nolan. But we always have an open mind when it comes to directors.”

The director has previously gone on record saying that he’s a massive Bond fan and he is “very serious” about directing an instalment in the long-running franchise, it’s just a matter of timing. Michael Caine revealed a while ago that he’ll be in Nolan’s next movie, that it will be original and likely released in 2014, so it probably won’t be Bond 24. To me, Nolan seems like the perfect choice for James Bond and he’d bring so much to the table with it.

Additionally, Naomie Harris (a Skyfall newcomer) let slip in a recent interview that long-time Bond producer Barbara Broccolli has previously met with Idris Elba (Thor, Prometheus) to discuss the actor possibly taking over Daniel Craig in the title role down the line. If it does happen, it won’t be for a while, as Craig is signed on for two more movies right now.

“I didn’t realize that there was this talk [about a black Bond], and then I did a film with Idris, and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli, and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy.”

I’m sure there would be a lot of racial arguments if Elba did get a shot at 007, but I don’t think I’d be fine with it. I’d take Michael Fassbender over him any day though, but I don’t think Elba is really suited for Bond – I can see him playing a sidekick agent for Bond though, or a villain. What do you think?
