STAR WARS EPISODE 7 Is Casting A Lady Jedi

Is it true that J. J. Abrams is casting a young, female Jedi for the lead? Or maybe Saorise was auditioning for the role of a young Sith apprentice? Or maybe just a random street urchin who was caught rummaging through ancient Jedi relics?

As we’re all aware, Kathleen Kennedy and the kind folks at Disney have been scouring the Earth in search of their lead actors for Star Wars Episode 7. We’ve reported on a few of these thespians, but even though we’ve poked and prodded, none have let loose with any juicy information. Well, until Saorise Ronan, that is.

A few days ago she confirmed that she auditioned for Episode 7, but quickly added a caveat that she was only one in a long line of other hopefuls. Well, she’s added a bit more information today, which reveals a whole hell of a lot more than she probably intended. First, read the transcript below:

“Yeah, I did [audition for Star Wars Episode VII]… I don’t know whether I should have said that now! I mean, everyone did. Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for, and guys who’ve gone in for a particular part, so I’d imagine J.J. is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that he needs. But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script. So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was… that was great. A lightsaber! Star Wars!”

Sounds an awful like Luke Skywalker’s first interaction with a lightsaber in Obi-Wan’s old dude abode. I don’t want to read too much into this scene (translation: I’m totally reading too much into this), but Saorise Ronan sounds like she was auditioning for the much rumored female Jedi lead. We’ve weathered a few months of reports that director J. J. Abrams will choose a lady thespian as his primary protagonist, and I’m willing to bet that Ronan has auditioned for this very role.
