Shortlist Of Directors For Catching Fire Leaks

The LA Times have apparentally leaked three of the directors under consideration to helm Catching Fire, the sequel to Lionsgate’s smash hit movie The Hunger Games. It was originally thought that originaly director Gary Ross would return, but recently issued a statement saying that he had walked away. There are a total of seven directors on the shortlist, but only three are listed below. In some ways, the choices are surprising (but one of them fills me with excitement). See for yourself:

David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

In case you hadn’t guessed, Alfonso Cuaron is the one that excites me. Personally, the only director here that I’ve seen movies of is Cuaron (they are Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men). I know of Cronenberg, but I don’t think he would be a very good fit for Catching Fire. I haven’t seen any of his movies, but I don’t think a horror director should be hired purely because this movie would definately not benefit from being a hard R. I’ve never actually heard of Inarritu before so I can’t comment. This is what the site say….

Any of the three men would be a reassuring choice for fans and Collins. And all three auteurs could have compelling takes on the material. Other names are sure to rise to the surface, but Cronenberg, Inarritu and Cuaron should give fans some reassurance that Lionsgate is doing its best to try to preserve their beloved franchise.

What do you make of this? Who do you want to direct? Sound off below.
