Scott Adkins Should Play The BAD BOYS 3 Villain Just Ask RAID Director Gareth Evans

The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2: Berandal director Gareth Evans took to Twitter to give his support to British action actor Scott Adkins to play the villain in Bad Boys 3, the third sequel was recently announced to be back in development at Sony. An idea we can surely get behind, as Scott is considered the “diamond in the ruff” of the action genre and has yet to be fully embraced by Hollywood studios. We know zero about what Sony has in mind for Bad Boys 3, but are fully supporting the chance to see Adkins play a villain in the film, as the previous two installments had some less than threatening bad guys.

Scott is best known as a stuntman and supporting actor in movies such as Expendables 2Bourne UltimatumX-Men Origins: Wolverine and Danny The Dog, he’s recently broken out as a leading man with cult action flicks  Undisputed 3, Universal Solider 4 and Ninja 2. Known for his crazy martial arts and fighting skills, which can be seen on full display in this promo reel. He is also proficient with all types of weapons including guns, blades and blunt objects. Hollywood is desperate for action leads pulling aging actors out of retirement and throwing them into massive action epics that they could barely complete as young men, I’m looking at you Willis, Stallone and Schwarzenegger. It’s shocking that Adkins hasn’t made a huge splash in the genre by now, considering he’s got the charisma and the abilities it takes to get asses in seats.

During the casting of the new Batman for Batman Vs Superman there was an unsuccessful online campaign to get Adkins cast as Bruce Wayne, hopefully this is a reachable goal and it does help that action guru Evans is backing Scott with his support. Scott does have an intimidating screen presence most actors couldn’t achieve during their entire career. A director hasn’t been announced by Sony, as Michael Bay isn’t currently attached and we might see new director take a shot at the series.

The Fast And The Furious franchise took things to the next level with the sixth installment and have begun to include talented action stars to their lineup, which includes Gina Carano, Jason Statham, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousy, Michael Jai White (rumored for a role) and The Raid‘s own badass Joe Taslim. Sony has a chance to beef up their own franchise in a similar way, allowing other actors to do the heavy lifting because I’m not sure how much an aging Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are going to be willing to do stunt-wise. The great thing about Bad Boys is that it’s a pair of R-rated movies that lends itself to including more edgy action sequences that a PG-13 rating couldn’t handle. Bad Boys 3 needs a similar model of bringing on a mix of action talent for supporting roles and protagonists. Having someone like Scott Adkins as the villain brings something to the role that you won’t get with an obscure or unknown character actor (were we expected to be afraid of Jordi Mollà’s Scarface impression?). It’s future success depends on including relevant casting additions while developing new ones, I hope to hell Sony tries to get Kevin Hart (Grudge Match, Death At A Funeral) and Michael Ealy (Almost Human, Underworld: Awakening, Miracle At St. Anna, 2 Fast 2 Furious) in there for supporting roles.
