Sam Mendes Likely To Return To Direct BOND 24

I think everybody was shocked by the immense success of Skyfall late last year. Before that, the highest-grossing Bond movie was Casino Royale six years earlier, clocking in at a worldwide gross of somewhere around $500m. However, the latest outing went on to gross over $1B worldwide, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 2o12 and the eighth highest-grossing of all time, and being a critical success as well.

So, it was inevitable that director Sam Mendes and writer John Logan would return to Bond 24, and it looks as if they both are. It was revealed some time back that Logan would be returning, and it was rumoured he was penning a two-part Bond adventure. However, The Daily Mail reports that those plans have been scrapped, and Mendes is 75% on the way to signing the dotted line.

Instead, the film will be another standalone adventure. Logan has reportedly written two treatments for the sequel, however Mendes wants to see a finished script before he sees anything this year. Production could begin later this year in time for a Fall 2014 release date (similar to Skyfall‘s filming schedule), and I certainly hope it does.

What do you think? I think this is excellent news – believe it or not, I wasn’t a Bond fan at all before a few months ago and found the movies and books incredibly boring. However, Skyfall changed all that. Share your thoughts in the comments below.
