Ridley Scott Says No Director’s Cut For Prometheus; Cut Movie For Better Rating

Previously, Ridley Scott said he was willing to cut Prometheus to reach a decent rating from the MPAA and receive as large a box office as possible. Well, he did. Speaking with the BBC, Sir Ridley revealed he cut some of  the movie to achieve a lower rating than 18/NC-17 and said that there will be no Director’s Cut on the DVD, following in the footsteps of Joss Whedon.

“It has to be be about the movie, so I’ve made concessions. There’s a moment where you don’t want to harm the movie.

But he acknowledges its a case of simple economics and getting an 18 certificate “could be the difference of $80m or more”.

“It isn’t real – I have monsters. Like the monsters in Lord of the Rings, for kids they were pretty scary but they got a PG-13 because their blood was black, that’s rubbish”.

But, speaking with JoBlo, he confirmed there would be no Director’s Cut. It may seem like a little thing, but this is a pretty big surprise considering Scott is known for having Director’s Cut’s for his movies (and in the case of Blade Runnder having the extended version be better than the theatrical one), although who knows if he’ll release one a few years down the line.

“No, I think this is a good length. But that said, I think that now the fashion of actually putting out a couple of discs is here to stay, which will comfort you on all other kinds of conversation about how the movie was made. All you’ll really do is see extended scenes in the menu. Other than that I think this is a pretty good length, the dynamics of this are about right.”

I guess I can settle for deleted scenes. Are you annoyed that there will be no Director’s Cut? Sound off below.
