Producer Dan Lin Talks About GODZILLA

If it’s one film that’s been rather too quiet over the past two years, it’s Legendary’s GODZILLA. At this year’s Comic Con finally we finally got some good stuff, including a poster and release date. But the biggest thing was test footage shown for all the lucky people that attended. (Sadly I was not among them.) Still, it was necessary for people thinking the film was in development hell or something. Since then, there have been a few updates here and there, but nothing really big. Producer Dan Lin talked with Collider recently about this movie. While he didn’t reveal anything huge, it’s still pretty interesting.

“So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting, it’s a true reboot of Godzilla.  And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla.  What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?”

Yes, what would happen? Not only would buildings crumble, but it would throw the whole bank system out the window and whatever place is affected will suffer for years to come. Now, would the King head over to Japan?

“I don’t want to give any plot details right now; I want you guys to be surprised.”

Well there you go folks. People will no doubt be comparing this to next year’s kaiju/mecha epic PACIFIC RIM. But really, based on everything I’ve heard and these quotes, the two will be completely different, like The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. (I’ll have to do an editorial after this film releases.) The movie also looks to be filming in Vancouver.

“Most likely it’s filming in Vancouver.”

GODZILLA stomps into theaters on May 16th, 2014.
