Well, that’s a weird combination.
Apparently Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer will collaborate on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 score. Pharrell says as much in this short statement …
Hans Zimmer and I are scoring “The Amazing Spiderman 2.”
Not only that, but the pair apparently collaborated on the Man of Steel soundtrack, which is news to me. After a bit of digging, though, it appears that Pharrell only hammered out a few beats on a drum set, for which Zimmer had already scored the music. It’s a bit generous to label that a “collaboration” (in contrast to the 2012 Academy Awards, where both men composed equal parts for the program), but apparently their relationship will expand in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Again, I’ll take Pharrell’s words at face value, but I hesitate to believe that he’ll actually contribute equally. Perhaps he’s a massive fan of superhero overtures and he wants to learn more about them? Or maybe he has a massive man crush on Zimmer after the two worked on the Oscars, and he wants to cement his place as speed dial contact #1?
We’ll know more soon, as I definitely want to get to the bottom of this story. As long as Pharrell abstains from those weird, whispery vocal tracks… I’m onboard. Although, even with the mighty Zimmer as his ally, I doubt this duo can top Danny Elfman’s original theme for the 2002 Spider-Man film.
I love that song so damn much. I can’t even put it into words. Elfman just ‘gets’ me… unlike my 2 previous girlfriends, who couldn’t understand why a 25 year old, brown bearded fattie would play this song on repeat during my occasional 3 am showers. It’s not weird! Sometimes you just gotta get your Spidey jam on… and a shower wank. Never doubt a shower wank.
Since I’m such a swell guy, I’ve embed it below.
