When there is smoke, there is usually fire. TheWrap is hearing what we’ve all assumed has been a sure-thing, Paul Rudd is wanted for the lead role in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. The site says that Rudd is currently in early talks with Marvel for the lead role. They also confirmed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper) was also a front-runner but decided to go with his Sandman project instead. Seeming to confirm that Paul is looking to play Dr. Hank Pym and not Scott Lang. This is the first time we’ve heard that Paul is in serious talks with Marvel.

Rudd will play a scientist who invents a substance that allows him to change his size and communicate with insects.

If true, this could also mean that the chatter linking Rashida Jones (Cuban Fury, Parks And Rec) to the Wasp role is just as solid. Rudd and Jones have previously co-starred in two films together, which likely proves they’d have chemistry if paired for the film. Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish have completed the script, and Wright has moved into pre-production starting in October. The film is expected to begin shooting in the Spring at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Ant-Man‘s release date was bumped up from November, 2015 to July 31st, 2015.
