PACIFIC RIM To Be Converted To 3D

Because Warner Bros is run by idiots they have decided to convert Guillmero del Toro’s upcoming giant monster/robot movie Pacific Rim to 3D ahead of it’s release next May, despite the director clearly stating during Comic-Con that he told them not to do it.

I know myself and most others despise 3D and don’t want the movie to be released in the format, but Warner Bros are just trying to get this the biggest box office draw it can, and since China is a huge market now and for some bizarre reason they only release American films that are presented in 3D or IMAX, they just think they’re doing what’s right.

Back at Comic-Con though, in an interview with Collider, del Toro specifically said that he convinced them not to release the movie in 3D. I doubt he’s very pleased with this news.

“I didn’t want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big, the thing that happens naturally is you’re looking at two buildings at 300 feet.  If you move, the buildings don’t go like this (moves his hands closer together), there’s no parallax.  They’re so big that you barely notice anything no matter how fast you’re moving, so to force the 3D effect on robots and monsters that are supposed to be that high, you’re making them miniaturized, you’re making them human-scale. I knew that the 3D effect sounded like a great idea, but it was gonna be counter.”
