It’s no secret that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have been…well, secretive, about the film plans for their famed superheroes. Aside from the Man of Steel sequel featuring Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman (that we know of), nothing else has been revealed regarding the other characters. Of course, there have plenty of rumors! From The Rock playing John Stewart to Arrow being a part of the DC Cinematic Universe, speculation has run rampant.
Well not to worry DC fans: soon we’ll be getting an official (and I really mean official) announcement regarding their movies soon. A New York Times interview (found via Superhero Report) with Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed that DC and Warner Bros. will soon make an announcement regarding a DC film series.
As for DC Entertainment, cross-studio collaboration to make better use of its comic book characters appears to have accelerated considerably since Mr. Tsujihara took over, in part because he eliminated some management layers. (He has not named a chief operating officer and did not replace Mr. Rosenblum and Mr. Robinov, choosing instead to divide up their duties and assume some himself.) Two new television shows are coming to the CW and Fox, including one based on the Flash and another on a young Batman, and a film series will be announced in the near future, Mr. Tsujihara said. It is expected to include a “Justice League” movie.
Note the “expected to include” part. Maybe I’m reading this the wrong way, but that could mean that Justice League will be announced IN ADDITION to a film series. Obviously nothing is official yet, and it may be many more years before we hear anything about a Justice League movie, but this is the most news we’ve had in months, so I’ll remain optimistic. Plus, the way Batman vs. Superman is turning out, we’re already getting a miniature Justice League in two years.
As for the film series itself (if it’s not Justice League), its title characters could range from Wonder Woman to Aquaman to a Green Lantern reboot. My money’s on Wonder Woman considering Gal Gadot is signed for multiple movies. Either way, we’ll probably have to wait until San Diego Comic-Con to find out what this film series will be.
I tell you what would really piss me off: if the film series announced is a rebooted Batman series. He just finished a trilogy, is getting a TV show and is the co-star of an upcoming movie. Focus on another one of your characters, DC!
