What Do You Think of Michael Rosenbaum as STAR-LORD?

There’s been a lot of rumors regarding the casting for the likely main character in Marvel‘s forthcoming galactic jaunt, Guardians of the Galaxy, but today’s bit of conjecture has got to be the most interesting so far.

Michael Rosenbaum, that’s right Lex Luthor from Smallville fame, tweeted this little nugget:

Let that simmer in your minds for a moment.

First off I’m going to come right out and admit that he’s a talented actor and essentially he was by far one of the major highlights from that long-lasting soap opera style journey that was Tom Welling‘s transition from Clark Kent to Superman.  His ability to hold a scene full of complex emotions and deliver comedy when necessary are both essential skills that were handily displayed for seven straight seasons.  When comparing him with some of the other rumored hopefuls it certainly makes for a very interesting group of finalists.

From Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi (read our article here) to Jospeph Gordon-Levitt (read more on that here) each of these actors brings something different to the role of Star-Lord.  But at this point, for me, Michael Rosenbaum might just be that surprise pick that I honestly never thought of but nonetheless end up really digging.  At this point I’m pulling for the guy.

But what do you fanboys and fangirls think?  Of the last men standing who’s your top contender?  Is it someone that hasn’t been named yet?  Are you eager to see this movie made or are you nervous about it?  Do you think it’s doomed to be the Green Lantern of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?  Sound off with your thoughts below and opinions in the comments section below.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be directed by James Gunn, and it’s due out August 1, 2014.
