Mary Jane Watson ISN’T In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Anymore

Yeah, you read that headline right. It doesn’t sound like Sony have learned their lesson from the editing mess of The Amazing Spider-Man. In an interview with Entertainment Weeklyactress Shailene Woodley, who was cast as Peter Parker’s more well-known love interest Mary Jane Watson for a small role in the sequel last year, revealed that her character’s storyline will now NOT be occurring in the sequel and has been moved over to the third installment.

“Of course I’m bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason…Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”

The “proposed plot” she speaks of is absolutely packed – we already know the movie features Electro, Rhino, Green Goblin and possibly Vulture, along with the (likely) Death of Gwen Stacy storyline being incorporated and Harry Osborn’s introduction. Plus, then there’s the, y’know, character development and plot.

There are two flip sides to this news. MJ would probably a bit too much in this already jam-packed movie, but completely cutting out a storyline from the film altogether? That sounds a lot like the cutting of Ratha’s death and ‘The Untold Story’ in The Amazing Spider-Man.

What do you think? Do you think it’s a good idea to move Mary Jane Watson over to The Amazing Spider-Man 3, recently confirmed for a 2016 release? Share your thoughts below.
