Mark Hamill’s A Free Meal Away From Signing Onto STAR WARS EPISODE VII

Sort of. Last week the folks at Latino Review revealed that Harrison Ford had signed on to reprise his role as Han Solo in Star Wars Episode VII, however sites since then have indicated that they are currently only at the negotiations stage with the old cast.

However, today in an interview with ET Online promoting his new film Sushi Girl, the actor revealed that he IS in early discussions to return in the role of Luke Skywalker (however no contracts have been signed yet) and also shares his hopes and predictions for the future of his character and the franchise itself. Read them below:

“They’re talking to us. George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts – they would write us out. … I can tell you right away that we haven’t signed any contracts. We’re in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm.”

“I’m assuming that these movies would be about our offspring — like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range [as] an influential character”

“I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love models, miniatures, matte paintings — I’m sort of old school. I think if you go too far in the direction of CGI it winds up looking like just a giant a video game, and that’s unfortunate. … If they listen to me at all, it’ll be, ‘Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.”

I predict the Disney snipers are after Hamill as we speak! In all seriousness though, it’s absolutely brilliant news that he, Ford and Fisher will all (probably) be back as Luke, Han and Leia. And I hope Kathleen Kennedy and Disney listen to his suggestions about the story and the use of effects, since they’re all exactly the right direction fans want (and good ones too).
