THR reports that director Alex Proyas has cast Australian model-turned-actress Courtney Eaton as the female lead in his epic Gods of Egypt, Eaton’s only credit includes a role in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road alongside Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nichols Hoult. Proyas has previously directed movies such as Dark City, The Crow and I, Robot.
Osiris’ son Horus (Coster-Waldau) attempts to avenge his father by killing his uncle, but succeeds only in having his eyes plucked out. Still determined to stop the mad Set (Butler), Horus joins forces with the love goddess Hathor and a human thief (Twaites) who happens to be in love with a slave (Eaton).
Other cast members include Gerard Butler (300, Olympus Has Fallen), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Headhunters, Oblivion, Game of Thrones), Geoffrey Rush (Kings Speech, Pirates of the Caribbean franchise) and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent). I’ll be interested to see Butler play the villain in this one.
Alex Proyas was also setting up an ambitious project at Legendary Pictures titled Paradise Lost, which would focus on the epic clash between angels Lucifer and Michael. Before the project got the axe the cast would have been Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Walker, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Callan McAuliffe, Diego Boneta, Camilia Belle and Dominic Purcell. Just looking at this concept art work above, it might give you an idea of how visionary Alex could be with this new project.
