George Milller’s Mad Max: Fury Road started production three years ago and now finally has a set release date of May 15th 2015. Warner Bros. has sandwiched Max between two rather large Disney movies. Placing the Tom Hardy (Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Warrior) led adrenaline fuelled action flick between The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland. Fury Road‘s supporting cast includes Charlize Theron (SWATH, Young Adult, Monster, Prometheus), Nicholas Hoult (X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men First Class), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers 3), Zoë Kravitz (X-Men First Class) and a possible cameo from franchise star Mel Gibson. At the bottom on the page is a set snap of the villain of the film Rictus Erectus played by Nathan Jones. There is chatter that Hardy’s voice for Max is similar to the one used for Bane. Theron’s character Imperator Furiosa might even get her own spin-off if the film does well enough at the box office.

It’s not a terrible spot but the summer of 2015 is looking to become one of the most overcrowded in a long time. We’ve already seen a few films like Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Star Wars: Episode VII pushed out of the summer entirely because of the large amount of release. Not to mention, those two Disney projects having their own issues with meeting the deadlines due to script problems. The rest of the summer slate includes Jurassic World, Batman Vs Superman, The Fantastic FourAnt-Man, Ted 2, Terminator 5, Minions and Assassin’s Creed. I’m not too worried since the Mad Max films are so incredible different from the two other May releases. I could see it being a giant draw for the Fast And Furious crowd. Plus, curious supporters of the first three films will likely want to see how Hardy makes the character his own.
