ThinkMcflyThink recently reported that Warner Bros. and Zack Synder were looking at black actors for the role of Lex Luthor in Batman Vs Superman, the names being Denzel Washington (Training Day, Man on Fire, American Gangster) , Idris Elba (Pacific Rim, The Wire, Thor 1-2, Mandela, and an unnamed actor from CW’s Arrow. A new theory concerning that last unknown actor might have been revealed.
ScreenRant points out that Bond actor Colin Salmon could be the actor they’re referring to in the piece, Salmon has tons of film credits which include Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough Die Another Day, Resident Evil, Aliens Vs Predator, The Bank Job, Punisher: War Zone, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Resident Evil: Retribution. A talented British character actor that has a mix of oddball credits to rather large action films, who always delivers class even if the film is lacking in that department (Resident Evil and AVP, I’m looking at you).
Considering it sounds like both Washington and Elba might be out of the running due to other commitments, I wouldn’t be disappointed to see Salmon become a front-runner for the role of Luthor. We need someone that will be able to commit to multiple films which could be the reason the studio wasn’t able to lock-in the previously named actors. Hiring an actor not already linked to a current franchise or contracted for upcoming films might be reason to seriously consider actors like Salmon for the role. Production is expected to begin in February in Michigan with a release date of July 17th, 2015.
