Kevin Fiege Confirms Thanos Won’t Appear In Thor 2

Well, kinda. In an interview with Empire Kevin Fiege debunked fanboy speculation that the Mad Titan himself Thanos would be making an appearance in Thor II, despite rumours that he would as it was said in The Avengers Thanos would hunt and destroy Loki if he failed him, which he did. He also confirmed that we’ll see a different side to Asgard and said that instead of Thanos, there would be a “new, major, major antagonist….” make of that what you will. We know that Mads Mikkelsen is in talks with the studio to play the villain, and Fiege has said before it’s a BIG villain, so who could it be? Given the hints, my money’s on Surtur.

Along with talking about Thor II, the head honcho at Marvel Studios also commented on the success of The Avengers and how happy he was that it’s broken so many box office records and received critical acclaim. Check out the exercepts below:

“I was just hoping it would beat the opening weekend of Iron Man 2, which was the biggest opening weekend for any Marvel Studios movie. We did 80 or 90 million above that. As the numbers started coming in on Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night, they just kept getting bigger and bigger, into areas I would never in a million years have believed.”

“The Avengers was not the finale for us. “It was a giant, giant marker, but it was never the finale. We are already well into the plan for the next phase of our little cinematic universe.”

“We’re going to see the other side of Asgard. It’s not all polished and golden in this film. And the events of Avengers will have affected Thor for sure. His relationship with Loki will continue to evolve, and the biggest part is Natalie and Thor returning with Jane Foster.”

What do you make of this? Thor II is shaping up to be pretty damn good so far! Sound off with your opinions on who the villain of the movie will be below.
