Kevin Fiege Confirms Thanos In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; Talks About Why It Was Greenlit

Well, we all confirmed this in our minds when this movie was announced, but it’s nice to have clarification. Kevin Fiege confirmed to the Japanese movie site Nifty (via CBM) while doing press rounds for The Avengers, which has only just been released in Japan, that the Mad Titan Thanos will definitely play a part in Guardians of the Galaxy. The interview is poorly translated, but you can get the jist of what Fiege is trying to say.

On why the movie was greenlit:

I’ve got a story I wanted to tell the world [that is] not directly related with the characters of “The Avengers,” [until?] a little later.

When asked about Thanos, he said:

I’m out (laughs) of course, because there is meaning [to the credits stinger].”

Yeah I barely understood that last one either. But Kevin did say one of the main reasons Guardians of the Galaxy was greenlit was because he “wanted to do something with it space.” Although this was practically a given, considering two members of the team are heavily linked to Thanos.
