Josh Brolin Was Almost BATMAN

As we all know (you’d have to live under a rock not to), it was recently announced that Oscar winner Ben Affleck would be playing Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel (which is tentatively titled Batman vs Superman). Love it or hate it, it’s set in stone now. However, Josh Brolin, a name that floated around heavily in the casting rumors, recently said that he was in the running to play the dark knight.

“We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s okay. It is okay. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben,”

…is what the No Country for Old Men star had to say when asked if he’d had conversations with Snyder (Watchmen, 300) about playing the caped crusader.

Expressing sympathy for the wildly negative online reaction to “Batfleck”, Brolin said…

“I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life. I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘Fuck this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can.'”

Brolin did express well-wishes to Affleck when he stated, “I want him to kick ass, and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.” This, in my opinion, is one of the best things someone has said when asked about their thoughts on Affleck playing the Batman.

    Very well said for a guy who can almost be the talk of the town if he actually got the part. Brolin is a good choice, and won’t be getting the same negative reactions as Ben did, but I personally think that casting a much younger actor is more appropriate given that Batman would be appearing in more than just 1 or even 2 DC movies. Affleck is a future proof candidate.

    I don’t feel bad for Affleck, he is doing the best thing for himself. Sure he’s getting plenty of grief, but he gets paid enough to handle it. I can’t wait to see the movie.

    I say give Ben a chance. I wouldnt say I love him but I definitely dont hate him. Zack Snyder is a good directer and David Goyer wrote the dark knight so I expect this movie to be amazing!

      David Goyer didn’t write The Dark Knight, he wrote Batman Begins. Jonathan and Christopher Nolan wrote TDK and TDKR.

    I think the Ben Affleck news was frightening to Batman fans at first and is sort of cooling down.
    While I think Ben will do fine, I find it interesting that a couple things haven’t been pointed out in the pros and cons.

    Ben Affleck is friends with Kevin Smith. Kevin Smith is a Batman fan and knows Ben’s acting first-hand. I don’t think he’d let Ben go mess up Batman.

    But, and maybe I’m alone here, but I did not like him as Daredevil. Anyone else?

    I’ll watch this movie. I’m just going to try and forget Daredevil like I guess all the bloggers have as well.
