Uh oh. Recently we heard a lot of details leaked from the script for the Robocop remake, and they didn’t sound too good (some were better than others). They included Robocop being a transformer of sorts, Robobop being tested by fighting terrorists in Afghanistan and a focus group calling the original Robocop suit ‘lame’. The director of the remake/reboot/thing, Jose Padhilla, seems to be having as much troubles with the project as the fans are.
His close friend, Fernando Mereilles, revealed during promotion of his upcoming movie 300 that Jose had voiced his concerns about the project to him, saying it was leaving him bitter. You can read the interview at Cinema Com Rapadura (in Portugese), or you can read the translated parts thanks to Bleeding Cool.
9 out of 10 of Padilha’s ideas are being rejected.
He’s fighting, and it’s making him bitter.
The experience is described as “hell.”
But Mereilles believes the film will still be good.
It’s rather sad, as Jose was one of the brightest things about this project. I hope we don’t get another Total Recall situation. Share your thoughts below.
