Jason Momoa to Play Drax in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

Apparently, it is very possible. According to Latino Review, actor Jason Momoa (Conan in Conan the Barbarian) has taken a screen-test for the part of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s upcoming sci-fi epic Guardians of the Galaxy. And, if the report is true, Marvel was so impressed that they handed him the part. HOWEVER, before you get too excited, The Hollywood Reporter claims that no such deal has been made yet.

Jason Momoa, born in 1979 in Hawaii, is best known for his role as Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series, where he was given the “ShoWest Award for Male Rising Star of 2011”. He also portrayed Ronon Dex in the sci-fi series Stargate Atlantis, and was the antagonist of the Sylvester Stallone flick Bullet to the Head.

Guardians of the Galaxy, based off the Marvel Comics group, is being directed by James Gunn (Super). The film follows a group of space-based superheroes (Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Groot) as they take on cosmic and intergalactic threats. The film will be released in theaters August 1, 2014.

While I haven’t seen anything that Momoa has been in, plenty of people are vouching for him. And he certainly has a similar build, at least. Of course, this is still just a rumor. But hey, Momoa beats Adam Sandler.
