Jason Clarke Cast In DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES; 15 Year Time Gap

Just last night I was watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and confirming with myself that it definitely is one of my favourite films. This piece of news was rather well-timed in my opinion, and it’s certainly not disappointing either. The Hollywood Reporter reveal that Fox has signed Jason Clarke (breakout star of Zero Dark Thirty) to play the lead of the movie (taking over from James Franco in Rise), and that the movie will be set 15 years after the previous instalment.

“It is set 15 years after the events of 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. One focus is on the group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to remain dominance over his kingdom.”

It’s unknown as of now who Clarke will portray, but the movie is eyeing a Spring start date with Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) replacing previous director Rupert Wyatt behind the camera. James Franco, lead of the first movie, previously said he was unsure if he would return to star in Dawn, however given the large time jump I doubt he’ll be reprising the role.
