JARED LETO may play THE JOKER in SUICIDE SQUAD

We may see the Joker make a return to the big screen sooner than we think, with Oscar Winner Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) being considered to fill the role of the Clown Prince of Crime in the upcoming Suicide Squad film. At least this is what both The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter are announcing, reporting that though Warner Bros. nor Leto’s representatives replied to their request for comment, a source close to the film has.

But what does this news mean? Can the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman prove to be the right choice to follow the Oscar Winning performance Heath Ledger gave? Now before you all go and make up your minds, let me cast it back to when Heath Ledger himself was cast in the role. It wasn’t a favourable choice by many fanboys was it? I personally however feel that Leto has the potential to give a captivating performance, but at the same time I am a little sceptical (though I feel I’d be this way with any casting). One thing that I am doubtful over is whether he’ll surpass Heath Ledger‘s phenomenal performance, as for any actor this isn’t an easy feat.

Suicide Squad is set to be released in 2016, having David Ayer attached to direct. But just how will the Joker fall into this film? The most obvious way of integrating the villainous foe of the Caped Crusader is in the form of his most loyal follower Harley Quinn, who has been a key feature in the Suicide Squad since The New 52 kicked off three years ago. Not only would this allow fans the chance to see Joker and Harley work alongside each other, but it’d also give them something they’ve been dying to see for years… Harley Quinn on the big screen. I personally however feel that if both characters are involved, Joker needs to be the villain, as just imagine the conflict that Harley would have within her chasing down the man she loves? Alternatively the film could take a different route, incorporating the Clown Prince of Crime as a member of the group itself. This is the one that I personally would love to see, as just imagine a younger Joker getting captured and told what to do?

But what do you my fellow fanboys and  fangirls think? Is Jared Leto the right choice for the role? Should the Joker even be in the Suicide Squad in the first place?
