Paramount is looking to move forward with a Jack Reacher sequel and are currently looking for writers, according to a new report from Deadline. Christopher McQuarrie will be too busy with the production of Mission: Impossible 5  and won’t be start work on the sequel’s script, the studio is now on the search for someone to complete the task, McQuarrie is still expected to direct though. They also mention that the next film will be based on Lee Child’s Never Go Back which was released this fall, Reacher is forced to track his past and discovers a young girl that might be his daughter. The untitled sequel is currently in the early stages of development and Cruise is attached to the sports drama Go Like Hell with Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski which could happen first.

Reacher heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.

This smart young lady could eventually become Jack’s side-kick in the film, a nice change of pace and feels more inline with a Shane Black (Lethal Weapon franchise) feature like The Last Boy ScoutLast Action Hero, and this past summer’s Iron Man 3I wouldn’t be shocked if Paramount did actually consider Shane as the film’s screenwriter as he’s able to write that kind of dynamic perfectly, along with infusing humorous moments in all of his scripts.

No names are being mentioned, but I have to admit there are plenty of young actresses that could take this role. I have a feeling Joey King might be one to seriously consider, her list of credits include The Conjuring, The Dark Knight Rises, Oz The Great And Powerful, White House Down and Battle Los Angeles. Joey has a background with rather large productions and not to mention previously being involved with dark subject matter. I’d also say that Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Ender’s Game) would be a decent choice too, considering she’s been doing similar action flicks for a while now with Zombieland and the upcoming Arnold Schwarzenegger film Maggie.
