IRON PATRIOT Might Pop Up In CAPTAIN AMERICA : THE WINTER SOLDIER and AVENGERS 2

While busy touring the press rounds for IRON MAN 3, Don Cheadle (aka Mauty FAWKIN Kahn!… go watch House of Lies if you don’t get the reference) sat down with our friends/lovers at Collider for a few brief questions. After mulling over the finer points of flying metal suits and alcoholic superheroes, the conversation eventually turned towards THE AVENGERS 2 and other PHASE 2 flicks… could Cheadle and his Iron Patriot pop up in any of those films?

I don’t think a small cameo is entirely out of the question, but I’m not sure if Kevin Feige and the Marvel crew would invest a great deal of time in the “Ultimate Team-up flick” in a character who’s nothing more than sidekick (sorry Rhodey). Here’s what the actor had to say about Avengers 2:

No I have not, but I know that [there are] conversations that have been happening, so we’ll see what happens. If that’s able to happen and it makes sense for the story, I’m sure it’ll happen, and if not it’s fine. It has to work within the world and sort of the mythology of the whole Marvel universe.

Suprisingly, he was a bit more coy about participating in other Phase 2 properties, but he’ll at least visit Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I think I’m gonna go to the set, so maybe if my suit is in the trunk I’ll just walk on.

It wouldn’t be too outlandish for War Machine (can we please use this name instead of Iron Patriot?) to pop up in another flick, and it wouldn’t exactly distract from the individual film’s lead character. Again, not to be a dick, but Rhodey doesn’t exactly have the same onscreen pull as Tony Stark, an appearance by whom would take away from the rest of the film. Although… if RDJ does retire from the role, I really hope Cheadle fills in!
