Iron Fist, Daredevil, Luke Cage Will Be THE AVENGERS of TV

Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has revealed a tiny bit more info regarding Netflix’s massive deal with Marvel Studios. As you’re probably well aware (at least, you should be!), the Houes of Ideas conscripted the online streamer to distribute 50+ episodes of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones. We surmised that this would inevitably lead to a Defenders film or television series, and Rasulo kinda seems to feel the same way. They had already stated this entire enterprise as “Defenders”, but did not say whether that theme would be incorporated in the entire project, or would instead be a final project for each phase, like The Avengers.

Here’s what he said:

“It’s a little bit like the Avengers strategy

And, in case you feel a bit contentious today, there’s only one Avengers strategy: make a ton of solo films (or in this case, tv series) and unify them with one badass villain at the end of each Phase.

If that’s the plan with these Marvel Knights superheroes, then they could easily create a team-up film. After all, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones are central to the Marvel Knights mythos (so is Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and Punisher, if that piques your interest further).

Although, it sounds like Marvel will use ‘The Defenders‘ as their team name, which doesn’t really fit. You see, The Defenders was originally a misshaped team of Marvel’s biggest badasses: Hulk, Doctor Strange, Silver Surfer, Namor, etc. Daredevil and his gutter level vigilante friends don’t fit the mold. And yeah… I know about the recent Defenders reboot, which saw some of these Marvel Knights characters join the team, but I’m still not happy about it!
