Hey! I KNOW THAT VOICE

Listen up kids, Futurama, Adventure Time and Gears of War voice actor John Dimaggio has been working tirelessly on a documentary called I Know That Voice, showcasing all of the amazing voices that have brought to life the cartoons, video games, movies and everything else that you have loved and been so entertained by throughout the years: Billy West, June Foray, Kevin Conroy, Nancy Cartwright, Tom Kenny, Tara Strong, Hank Azaria, Mark Hamill, Noel Blanc… If none of these names ring a bell, not to worry. The moment you hear those voices… Bingo.

Some of you may have been aware of this project for quite some time, as Dimaggio and his team have been working on this film on and off for the last 2 years or so. But it looks as if a tentative release date is on the horizon (December) and with any luck, this much anticipated doc will finally see the light of day in the next couple of months.

John, along with Director Lawrence Shapiro and Producer  Tommy Reid diligently interviewed over 150 of yesterday and today’s best known voices, culminating in 160+ hours of footage that they have pared down to about 90 minutes. This documentary explores the creative process, voice acting history and the business itself, in a way probably never before seen or known by most of us. I’m sure the legendary Mel Blanc will be discussed quite a bit. After all, if not for Mel, who would have voiced 2/3rds of the  original Looney Toons and damn-near single handedly legitimized the industry?

The I Know That Voice crew have opted for what will be primarily a digital release, working a deal with GoDigital Distribution and with any luck, will be in theaters for a limited run sometime in November. A DVD will also be available for those of you who still hold onto that antiquated 20th century tradition of owning physical copies of your media.
