Hugh Jackman Wants to be THE WOLVERINE Forever

In an interview with FOX411, The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman reveals he wants to continue portraying the mega-popular mutant hero for as long as he can. Or at least until fans are sick of him.

When asked what it means to be playing the iconic hero, Jackman responded:

It means I didn’t get the memo that I was meant to move on (laughs). It means a lot, in all seriousness, I love this part. I’ve been around long enough in this business to know great parts like this don’t come along very often and as long as the part continues to grow and the reason for doing is there and that continues to grow ,and let’s face it, that the audience still wants to see it, I don’t see any reason to give it up. I’m having more fun now than ever.

Considering Hugh’s put on the metal claws more times than Downey Jr.’s donned Iron Man‘s armor, it would appear he is just getting warmed up. Jackman recently expressed his renewed vigor for the X-franchise after reading the script for next summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and if that film is as big a hit as the early buzz implies, we could see him as Logan a few more times.

Here’s my take: Jackman should absolutely play Wolverine until he’s old and grizzled, and then we could get an adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s “Old Man Logan” story. It wouldn’t feature all the Marvel usual suspects(Bryan Singer reference, anyone?) of course, but perhaps by then Marvel and Fox can work out their differences and join forces. A fanboy can dream, right?

The Wolverine opens tomorrow in theaters everywhere.
