HARDCORE — A Dream Come True

Recently it’s come to my attention that an outstanding project, that I had no idea existed, has been underway for over a year. That’s right my fellow fanboys and fangirls I’m talking about the aptly named HARDCORE, the world’s first first-person action movie. And yes, it’s everything you hope it is!

The genesis of the flick is simple enough. Ilya Naishuller, the man responsible for the aptly named “Bad Motherfucker” music video for his band Biting Elbows, was contacted by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) with the idea that he take the concept for his POV short and turn into a full blown feature. And so the odyssey of Henry, a cybernetic soldier, was born.

HARDCORE is simple. Our newly resurrected protagonist must save his wife and creator Estelle (Haley Bennet) who’s been taken by a “psychotic tyrant with telekinetic powers,” known as Akan (Danila Kozlovsky). Along for the ride is Jimmy (Sharlto Copley) who might just be our hero’s only hope to make it through this crazy, outlandish but worthwhile yarn. And it all takes place in the span of one 24 hour day.

HARDCORE - Henry Stuntmen at Work

Here’s how the director described the flick:

Every once in a while, a film will come along that will help ‘re-invent’ a particular genre for a new generation. I believe that Hardcore has a solid shot at pulling this off.

Now I know after seeing that glimpse and hearing some of the deails of the plot were more then enough to sell me but here’s the deal. Right now the principal photography has wrapped and the crew behind it needs $250,000 to finish their work. If they reach the goal they’ll be able to use the CGI artists they need to, plus Sound Design/Mixing and Color Correction.

There were a lot of physical stunts which means tons of wires, and for the final movie they need digital maestros to remove them in order to complete the shots in question.

All those Cyborgs in Hardcore

Plus there are prizes in play for contributions ranging between $1 (name added to a “Bullet[in] Board” that’ll be blown up) to 25,000 (Executive Producer Credit).

They’re already over $75,000 and every single dollar helps!

What say you my fellow fanboys and fangirls? Are you up to support this? Do you doubt the product? Will you own a copy of HARDCORE one day?
