HANSEL AND GRETEL Follow Bread Crumbs to Sequel!

The Paramount Pictures fantasy flick Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters had a very rough start at the box office. However, thanks to international ticket-sales, the film has grossed over $205 million dollars. Thanks to that, Paramount has reportedly begun development of a sequel, according to Deadline.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a “continuation” of the classic fairy tale written by the Brothers Grimm, which was released in US cinemas on January 17 after being delayed over 9 months, follows an older Hansel and Gretel (played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) who are now professional witch hunters.

The film was directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow). So far, there has been no word on whether the actors will return, but producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will come back, for better or worse.

Hansel and Gretel got such horrible critical reception, that I have to wonder why anyone would make a sequel. The idea, admittedly, had some promise, and it could have been clever. Unfortunately, it seems that the writers dropped the ball with this film. But hey! Maybe the sequel will prove to be better!
