Marvel Studios has been able to rollout a large volume of Marvel films. Thanks in part to their cohesive film universe. Since all the films connect they can have future character cameos and Easter Eggs. Warner Bros. was clearly waiting to see how audiences reacted to Man of Steel before trying to pursue a similar avenue. Man of Steel seems to be the first installment of DC’s cinematic universe. Which will lead into Batman Vs Superman and branch out into other films such as Dark Universe (Justice League Dark). It’s very likely that the studio will be aiming to release new Batman films starring Ben Affleck. Along with possible standalone films for Wonder Woman and The Flash, as the two are rumored for cameos. Originally, Warner Bros. was planning on replacing the Harry Potter franchise with releasing their DC movies more frequently. That hasn’t been the case but that could all change according to director Guillermo del Toro. As he gives an update on his own film and DC’s plans to Italian site CineFilos.

“We’re still on it, and writing. And hopefully it will happen. But there’s no developments that are new. It’s still at Warner Bros. They are making plans for the entire DC Universe. All the superheroes, all the mythologies, and part of that is Justice League Dark. They’re planning on TV, movies, all the media, so we have to fit within that plan.”

Guillermo del Toro is about to begin production on his horror flick Crimson Peak in Toronto early next year. The ghost thriller stars Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam. He confirms they’re still developing the project while adding that DC is indeed putting together their own cohesive film world that would include his movie. Which means Dark Universe could be set in the world of Batman Vs Superman. DC characters such as John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, The Spectre and other would appear in del Toro’s film. I’ll be curious to see if Warner Bros. will be able to release DC films on a similar pace to Marvel Studios. Guillermo also confirmed to Montage that many of his future productions will be shooting at Pinewood Studios, Toronto. So, if del Toro ends up directing Dark Universe we can assume the production will be heading to Toronto.
