GODZILLA To Fight Giant Kaiju Spider In 2014?

GODZILLA 2014 HEADER

Will the king of monsters end up fighting a giant kaiju spider in the new reboot? BloodyDisgusting has been tipped off by toy site UrbanCollector of a possible new monster for Gareth Edward’s Godzilla reboot. The film which stars Aaron Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston is set for release in May 2014. They believe this new kaiju named Muto could be spider-like in appearance. Sporting eight legs like any good arachnid would. Muto sounds similar to the old Toho monster Kumonga first used in Son of Godzilla. There have been previous rumblings that Godzilla would be facing more than a few different kaiju in the new installment.

A giant spider kaiju could give audiences a different type of monster post-Pacific Rim. Which included unique kaiju based on sharks, apes, bats, crocodiles and crabs. Legendary Pictures has a rather large task on their hands to give audiences something to root for in an American-made Godzilla film. Even with the blessing of Japanese company Toho they still have the stigma of 1998’s lousy installment (a flick our delusional Editor-in-chief will forever defend). Obviously, the CGI has improved over the years and set images show the studio is aiming for a grounded setting. Edwards’ Monsters was a brilliant exercise in character building within an odd world of dangerous creatures. We’ll have to wait to see if that strong sense character development has been infused within this new Godzilla film. Since similar genre films have turned human characters’ screen time into mere time filler between fights, as seen in Pacific Rim. We already know from Guillermo del Toro that a crossover could happen but both films have varied tones. Godzilla, being more dark and bleak toned than del Toro’s films is brightly colored and packed with humorous moments. Legendary has been on point, allowing the two projects to be their own. While sharing some of the same love for the kaiju genre.

BD has a pretty decent track record when it comes to horror/monster genre flick scoops. However, while toy releases have in the past given away film details, like with any rumor, take this with a grain-of-salt. Would you be excited to see Godzilla battle it out with a giant kaiju spider?
