There can be only one! Deadline announces that Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Dom Hemingway) has landed the part of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis, beating out actresses Brie Larson (21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim), Margot Robbie (Wolf of Wall Street) and Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) for the role originally portrayed by Linda Hamilton. Sarah was later played Emilia’s Thrones co-star Lena Headey (300, Dredd, 300: Rise of An Empire) on the TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Deadline is also claiming that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be playing a terminator in the film, while previous rumors pointed to him playing a human character. Clarke’s addition will see her reunite with her Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), as production with a script from Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier is expected to begin next month with a release date set for July 1st, 2015.
New reports say that Tom Hardy (Inception, Mad Max: Fury Road, Dark Knight Rises) is still wanted for John Connor, even though it was revealed Hardy’s Lawless co-star Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes) is in talks for the role.
UPDATE: Variety confirms Kyle Reese contenders still include Nicholas Hoult (X-Men Days of Future Past, Mad Max: Fury Road), Garrett Hedlund (Tron Legacy, Troy, Inside Llewyn Davis) and Boyd Holbrook. The latter two had been linked for the John Connor role previously.
