Fox Unhappy With “Amazing” Script For CHRONICLE 2

Chronicle was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2012 (with over $120m in the bank), both critically and financially. I must admit I didn’t think much of the marketing until I went to see it and it’s now one of my favourite movies of the year, so as you can imagine I want a sequel. Well, the writer of the first movie Max Landis has been hard at work writing the sequel and when he turned the apparently amazing script into Fox their reaction was less than positive. His dad, acclaimed producer John Landis (Avatar), revealed that Fox have rejected his script and asked him to rewrite it. Read his comments below:

“He wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want ‘Chronicle’ again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.”

Not very good news. It’s sad as Fox seemed pretty adamant that they wanted to stay on the right track from now on, but this sounds very much like the studio’s old ways. I definitely don’t want to see a Chronicle rehash (it would be another Hangover: Part II disaester) and really want to see a continuation showing where their powers came from and how they’ll develop Matt.
