This is certainly a piece of news I’m sure none of us saw coming. Recently Joss Whedon revealed that his current draft of The Avengers 2 features the mutant Avengers Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, twin children of Magneto. However, because of their history with both X-Men and Avengers the characters fall in a special place on the contracts between the different studios; both companies can use them, but Marvel can’t reference Magneto or their origin being mutants and vice versa.
So, it’s unbelievably strange to read a tweet from X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer saying that actor Evan Peters has joined the cast as Quicksilver.
Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

Yeah, you read that right. As of right now, forums and Twitter accounts are exploding everywhere, and they have every right to be. While some are remaining optimistic and hoping that this is some kind of way to form a shared Fox/Marvel universe, I don’t have any doubt in my mind that Quicksilver (and probably Scarlet Witch too for that matter) wasn’t in the original script for the movie until it was announced the duo would be in The Avengers 2.
The kid actually looks the part, but I’ve never seen him in anything before and after a quick browse of his work the only film that I recognised was Kick-Ass, although I don’t remember him from it. If I am right then I have to say my excitement level for the reboot/sequel/prequel has been lowered tremendously.
