First Synopsis For Neil Blokamp’s Elysium

If you don’t follow news on non-superhero sci-fi movies, you probably have no idea what Elysium is. It’s the follow-up (in terms of genre) to Neil Blomkamp’s 2009 smash hit District 9, which involved aliens invading Johannesburg in South Africa. The entire internet literally had no idea what Elysium would be about, until today. Collider have got the first synopsis for the flick (which stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster) and reveals that the movie will have a very strong social/political commentary. The movie is having a screening tonight, Check it out below:

In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard the government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

The movie hits theaters the first of March next year, so we should probably expect a teaser or poster or something soon. Has that caught your attention? Sound off below.
