E.T. is coming to Blu-Ray!

Well ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to tell you that E.T.: The Extraterrestrial is officially headed to Blu-Ray.  When can we expect to see the adventures of Elliot and his alien?  Sadly there is no solid release date yet, just the promise of a Fall 2012 arrival.

Here’s the trailer for the Blu-Ray release:

The important highlights from the trailer is that there will be a new transfer of the film and it will be digitally remastered from the original 35MM film elements and will sport 7.1 surround sound.  And it’s always good to note that there are going to be hours of bonus features.  But there is no mention if this will be the original theatrical cut or the 2002 extended edition or both.

Fingers crossed that it’s at least the original cut, but hopefully it’ll be both versions packaged together, similar to the 2007 Blu-Ray release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.  Whatever the case may be I’m just glad it’s coming out in time to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the films original release.

It truly is a big year for any Steven Spielberg fan, as several of his classic movies are due out before the end of 2012.  You can look forward to collecting this movie, the original Indiana Jones movies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)and Jaws before we ring in 2013!
