Dwayne Johnson is Darkseid? Or Green Lantern? JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Talks

Dwayne Johnson you sly, sly dog. As you’re well aware, the Thespian formerly known as “The Rock” has lobbied Warner Bros. for a superhero role for a long, long time. He was once rumored to star as Lobo in a potential solo flick, but with Zack Snyder’s reboot of Superman in Man of Steel, Johnson has since set his eyes on a larger prey… the Justice League Movie. Even though WB has only announced Batman vs Superman, we’re all but certain that the Justice League will show up in their own silver screen adventure before the new decade. Dwayne Johnson’s pursuing a monstrous role in that superhero team up, one that’s both gritty and powerful. In his own words, when asked about his role in the Justice League movie or Batman vs Superman, Johnson’s said:

“The first quality we were looking for was that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on. What that does for me as an actor and the studio is it gives us space that we can explore; his complexities. The other quality was that he had to – the character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life. Then what that does again as an actor, it gives me a little bit of space, and we talked about personality. It just gives me a chance to put an imprint into his personality, with the set of tools that I could bring to the table and put a very unique twist on his personality, but still pay homage to who he is. The third thing – and most important – is he had to be a badass mother[frick]er, OK, and on a Superman level of power, where [he] could throw down. In those three qualities, I’m happy we’ve found that character.”

“So, you know, there’s been mutual interest with myself and DC for many years to find the right character. I, like everyone here in the room, love superheroes. So there’s been mutual interest with us for years, and we’ve been having ongoing discussions, myself and DC, for years about the right character, what the right character would be. That’s another thing, too: It had to be right.”

Who fits that bill? While DC’s littered with mighty macho men, only a handful of them are marquis names. So will Dwayne Johnson portray Darkseid? John Stewart’s Green Lantern? Or perhaps even the ex-wife role of Lobo?

If I were to bet, I’d place my money on Green Lantern. I know Johnson doesn’t want to play a recast character, but Dwayne Johnson’s hinted at John Stewart in the past, and even though the former wrestler’s certainly brawny enough to portray Darkseid, the thespian’s a good dude. He likes people to like him, and he’ll receive that adoration with Green Lantern, not the Batman-murdering Darkseid. And let’s not forget, Warner Bros. still dreams of a ‘Star Wars’ project, one that combines sci-fi heroics with blockbuster dollars. They hoped Ryan Reynolds’s time with Green Lantern would crack open a billion dollar franchise, but with that iteration now long dead, the studio should invest their hopes in the Rock.

I suppose he could portray Aquaman. If anyone could badassify that character, Dwayne Johnson could.
