Dragon Ball Z Film Will be First Ever Japanese Film to Screen at IMAX

Wow, cool! The upcoming Dragon Ball Z film, Battle of Gods, will be the FIRST EVER Japanese film to screen at IMAX Digital Theaters! I guess now Japanese fans can enjoy watching the amazing fights on the huge screen.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be the 18th animated theatrical film in the Dragon Ball franchise, and the first in 17 years. The film, unlike previous ones, is being made to be an official part of the Dragon Ball timeline. Akira Toriyama, author of the original manga, is working closely with the production. The film will take place between chapters 517 and 518, after the defeat of Majin Buu.

Battle of Gods is being directed by Masahiro Hosoda (Zatch Bell), and the music is being composed by Norihito Sumitomo (Corpse Princess). The animation is being done by Toei Animation, and 20th Century Fox is distributing. Most of the voice actors from the TV anime will reprise their roles.

The plot description is as follows:

Birusu, the god of destruction who has maintained the balance of the universe, has awakened from a long slumber. Hearing rumors of a Saiyan (Saiya-jin) who defeated Freeza, Birusu comes looking for Goku.

Excited that a powerful opponent has appeared after so long, Goku ignores King Kai’s advice and challenges Birusu in a battle. However, Goku is no match for Birusu’s overwhelming power and is defeated. Birusu leaves after uttering an ominous message, “Is there anyone on Earth more worthy to destroy?” Will Goku and the others really be able to stop the God of Destruction?!

The film will be released in Japanese theatres March 30th. I hope the film also screens in North American IMAX theaters. Now that I would pay for.
