Don Cheadle Drops Iron Patriot Hints In IRON MAN 3

Speaking to MTV News last month, War Machine actor Don Cheadle dropped a few hints towards Iron Man 3, including how the relationship between his character Rhodey and Tony Stark will be further developed in the movie and whether or not Iron Patriot will be in the movie. It was previously reported he’s not, rather a War Machine suit re-design, but he could still be called Iron Patriot instead of the former.

I have to say, for an Oscar-nominated actor, Cheadle’s performance in Iron Man 2 was as bland as you can possibly get. There was zero chemistry between him and Robert Downey Jr, and I was honestly hoping Marvel would hire a new actor for the third installment, giving us three different actors to play one character in a trilogy.

“What’s a lot of fun in this one is that the character gets a little bit more opened up. There’s a little bit more to do with Robert, and that relationship gets a little deepened,” said Cheadle, who took over the role in the last movie.

“They’ve kind of had to come to some sort of agreement. At the end of ‘Iron Man 2,’ [Rhodey] says, ‘I need a suit.’ And he just takes it. So you’ve got now a private sector Iron Man and a military Iron Man. There’s suit envy, which is fun. ‘Who’s really the big dog?’ We just get to play with that more. Robert and I always have a lot of fun when we’re acting together.”

“It’s fun to get to do these big franchises and do these movies like this that are very unique in their own way,” he said. “It’s a lot of moving parts, a lot to sort of get your head around. It’s a big challenge actually to try to keep the reality while you’re doing these movies with such huge set pieces. But it’s a lot of fun. The company makes it a lot easier.”

He also promised (well, we knew it was coming anyway), that the Shane Black-directed movie has “a lot of action.” Are you looking forward to Iron Man 3, and do you want to see what Cheadle has to offer this time around? Sound off below.
