“Doctor Who” Movie IN THE WORKS…SO MUCH WIN

David Yates, the director behind the last four Harry Potter films, is planning a silver screen debut for everyone’s favorite Time Lord. That’s right folks, Doctor Who is finally getting a movie!!! While those close to the subject are remaining mum about the specifics, Yates revealed in an interview with Variety that he wouldn’t let Hollywood make a mess of the “Who” mythology.

“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.”

Yates did a terrific job transforming the Potter books into dramatic, popcorn fun, so I’m really excited to see what he can do with Doctor Who‘s decades long story lines. In another statement, Yates revealed that this movie will be independent of the television lore…and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a terrible mistake. On one hand, it would give new audience members a fresh introduction to the character, but on the other…I don’t want anything to get ruined in the ‘reboot’.

We still have a few years before the movie debuts, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see…but here’s to hoping.
