Description Of The Total Recall And Amazing Spider-Man Footage From Kapow!

Again, I visited Kapow! Comic-Con today and I had a blast. It wasn’t as good as yesterday, but the highlight of the weekend was definitely the Sony panel, where they screened six-minute trailers for two of their upcoming movies, Total Recall and The Amazing Spider-Man. In a nutshell, both look fantastic. The 3D for TASM is really something else, I can’t really describe it. Simply fantastic. And Total Recall surprisingly looks very good, unfortunately a lot of the CGI shots shown weren’t rendered yet but the majority was finished, and reportedly there’s a trailer for the movie released tomorrow so keep an eye out for that. Stay tuned to UTF this evening for a review of the entire weekend, singling out the good from the bad. But who wants to know what they showed us for Total Recall?

“It started off with Doug Quaid (Colin Farrell) waking up from a nightmare, and his wife Lori comforting him. They talk about how things haven’t gone the way they hoped. Then, Douglas’s friend tells him about something called ‘Rekall’, but he tells him not to go there. He visit’s the worst part of his city, and is greeted by the new incarnation of the three-breasted hooker from the original. “You’ll wish you had three hands”. Then, he goes to Rekall. What followed was the scene from the trailer where he takes out everybody in the room without realising it.”

“He proceeds to go home to Lori, but she tells him that none of it really happened, followed by a chase sequence between the pair of them through their home and the streets outside. This was probably one of the best parts of the footage, as it was all round action and a high-octane thrill ride. He escapes, and Lori informs Brian Cranston’s character via videophone what is happening. Doug finds a videotape of himself saying,“Whatever you remember is not real,” to which he responds, “If I’m not me, who the hell am I?”

“When paying a visit to the upper class area of his city, he encounters Jessica Biel’s character who tells him to join her in her car, with the police and his ‘ex-wife’ trying to crash the floating car. This is where most of the visuals weren’t ready yet, so I can’t comment on that aspect. After asking him if he’s strapped in, the car dives down on to the streets below.”

“He then sees his friend who told him about Rekall, and orders him to shoot Biel. Lori returns, and then there’s a fight on the elevator, and the footage ends with Beckinsdale blowing it up with a bomb.”

All in all, most of the visuals were great, the acting was awesome, and it looks like this is going to be a very good high-octane sci-fi thriller!

We were shown a six-minute trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, which included a lot of new footage and extended shots of what we’ve already seen. There were some full-ish scenes near the beginning, then an assortment of new clips. The footage looked really great, and the 3D was definitely some of the best I’ve ever seen. The Lizard also looked really good, and despite some dodgy CGI in clips/trailers released, but he looks very realistic here. Check out the description below:

“It started off with the ‘We all have secrets…’ line from the first trailer, played with an assortment of clips of the Lizard chasing Spider-Man and Spidey swinging through the streets. Then it’s some quick clips of footage (which I can’t remember at all), and a scene between Peter, Uncle Ben and Gwen in the school, the ‘you’re on his computer!’ one. Garfield portrayed the awkwardness of Peter perfectly here, but I did feel how he portrayed him after he asked Gwen out on a date was a little bit too over the top, but that’s in Peter’s character. Emma Stone also had great acting here, and she was frankly beautiful.”

“It’s then followed by the car theif scene, with some new stuff we haven’t seen before (dialogue). “Oh no, is that a knife? Please don’t say it’s a knife!” I thought it was funny how the thief thought Spidey was actually being serious, and then he just gets stuck to the wall.”

“What followed was a bunch of clips, including many different looks at the Lizard but we still weren’t given a straight shot of him. We got a better look at the bridge fight scene, with the Lizard attacking Dr. Ratha’s car and dragging him out. There appears to be around four fights between Spidey and the Lizard in the movie, with the first in the sewers, the second on the bridge, the third in the school and the fourth on the top of Oscorp.”

While my description for the The Amazing Spider-Man footage isn’t as thorough as the one for Total Recall, I think you can get the general tone of the footage shown. All in all, Sony really impressed the whole room with the footage and I can’t wait to watch both movies this summer!
