Confirmed… Again… Benedict Cumberbatch Is KHAN In STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS!

This little casting tidbit has been confirmed, refuted, defended, and denounced ever since the marketing campaign first started for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, but a dependable source has finally confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch’s character is, indeed, Khan.

Now, this ‘confirmation’ isn’t official, and may not mean much to you until the studio validates the story (which I doubt they’ll ever do), but I’m content with it. Director J. J. Abrams has been especially sheepish with this sequel and the origins of its villian, so it only seems natural that he’s trying to conceal the identity of a fan favorited antagonist.

“Well moviegoers, through a trusted source, I can confirm that the Cumberbatch IS indeed playing Khan. He is called John Harrison at points in the film, but during a key scene where Harrison is held prisoner on the Enterprise, he does reveal to Kirk and crew that his true identity is Khan. In addition, the film takes another cue from Wrath Of Khan and alludes to the famous reactor scene, but puts a reverse spin on it.”

What do you think on the matter? Are you excited to see a modern rendition of Khan on the big screen? Or would you prefer an entirely original villain instead of the same old “revamp the 80’s!” trope we’re enduring?
