Christopher Nolan Talks MAN OF STEEL

While Nolan has been fairly slippery on the superhero movie front, especially with Justice League, he had a bit to say to The Playlist about the upcoming Man of Steel production. Nolan is on board as an executive producer for Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel.

One could be forgiven for assuming that Superman was getting the Nolan treatment in Man of Steel, placing him in a grounded, realistic world, akin to the Batman trilogy. Nolan on the other hand says the films wont be as similar as you might expect. When asked if Superman would exist in his own separate universe, like Nolan insists Batman does, he answered:

“Well, somewhat. But I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman.”

For any of you doubting that Zach Snyder’s hyper stylized take on the film will detract from the story, rest assure:

“It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done,” he continued. “I think it’s really remarkable to take on that character. Superman is a completely different character than Batman. So you can’t in anyway use the same template. But David Goyer had this, I thought, brilliant way to make Superman relatable and relevant for his audience. Zack has built on that and I think it’s incredible what he’s putting together. He’s got a lot of finishing to do on that. Superman is the biggest comic book character of them all and he needs the biggest possible movie version which is what Zack’s doing. It’s really something.”

He also went on to talk about The Dark Knight Rises ending. When questioned about the “radical” interpretation of Batman’s finale, he had this to say:

“Radical? Hmm, yes, perhaps for the comic book fans it was,” he said with a pause, “But I think it was appropriate ending for the story we set out to tell.”
